Snakeboy
Hardware Engineer
A pair of custom Snake Camera controllers for Kapture the Snake of '88, a Unity 3D horror game created during the PlayStation Careers Pathway Spring Game Jam. Designed around the concept of a Snake Camera, the controller lets players interact with the game through motion tracking, voice input, and tactile controls. This project is designed by me and Magen Mozeh.
Build Process
- Step 1: Designed the Controller Mechanical Enclosure in Fusion 360 . We first measured the dimensions of all electronic components and then create a multi-part enclosure assembly model in Fusion 360, The current design joints mechanical components using heat-set inserts and 4x M3 screws.
- Step 2: 3D printed the PLA enclosure, then colored two different color variations using Bambu Studio slicer, and printed it on a Bambu Lab P1S. Did 3x test prints before we finalized the design
- Step 3: Assembled the raw prototype with breadboards and verified its function.
- Step 4: Designed, soldered, and integrated the custom PCB and electronics.
- Step 5: Developed bitmap animations for the OLED display.
- Step 6: Generated the Bill of Material, progress accessment report, and mechanical drawings.

Interactive Features
- Move: Players can use the joystick to move through the environment.
- Brightness: The potentiometer on the controller can be turned so players can adjust the brightness of Snakeboy's flashlight.
- Aim: Rotate the snake head to move the on-screen cursor. There is a small LED inside the snake's mouth, and its color changes based on the captured spirits.
- Inspect: The physical controller screen displays ghost signals and key information.
- Capture: When players see an orb inside their on-screen camera, they can press down on the joystick to capture ghosts.
- Interviews: After entering the interview stage, players can speak into the microphone to have voice-driven conversations with LLM-powered ghosts. For example, they can ask, "How was your day?" or "Who do you think killed everyone?" The ghosts may lie to deceive players.
